This project investigates the evolving concept of housing through the lens of transience, shifting the focus from static, individual-centered models to a broader, planetary understanding of how we live. It challenges traditional notions of domesticity—rooted in the post-industrial nuclear family—and embraces the fluid, unpredictable, and temporal nature of contemporary living.
My focus in this project was on reimagining the Port Authority Bus Terminal—not as a point of passage, but as a place of possibility. By reusing and adding to its existing structure, I introduced a state of stillness within the surrounding chaos and fast-paced movement. I explored how spaces typically reserved for public circulation could be redefined through mixed-use interventions that integrate communal and private living. This approach questions conventional boundaries between public infrastructure and housing, proposing new forms of temporary refuge and belonging for transient individuals.
